Marco Island, Esplanade Marina, Florida

February 8-10, 2024; Today’s Run: 20 miles

Approaching Marco Island:

At low tide, entire sandspits become noticeable.

Numerous manmade canals offer shoreline living for those who do not live on the Gulf.

From the marina, we could walk to restaurants, boutique shops and a full-size grocery store.
From house boats with cats to luxury yachts.
I guess 4 motors wasn’t enough.
Leaving Marco Island, a marine policeman hopes his presence will slow boats leaving the channel. A U.S. Coastguard ship up ahead, is replacing channel markers. It would be helpful if they didn’t have to compete with the wake from boaters.
Most boaters didn’t get the message.

Men give a wave of thanks for slowing while we pass.

But otherwise it is hard to imagine that Marco Island was not always what it is today.
