Today’s date: November, 2024
You might have wondered if I had retired from publishing my travel blogs. I have not. Last season, I didn’t have the time I needed to be a boater, enjoy the locations we visited, and publish quality blogs, and so I fell behind. After returning home for the summer, I worked on the blogs and I am now ready to publish them. I will send them to you weekly, as we continue our second season, traveling America’s Great Loop.
To recap last season: In October 2023, we started our adventure in Cincinnati, Ohio. Following the Ohio River, we joined the Tennessee River and followed it to Chattanooga. We took a second side trip to Nashville, (Cumberland River), and then continued south on the Tombigbee River to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, (Florida), to Marathon, making numerous stops along the way.
After 33 days in the Bahama Islands, we returned to the mainland at Stuart Florida. Fifteen miles south of Stuart, we connected with the Okeechobee Waterway and Caloosahatchee Canal where we put the boat into storage at River Forest Yachting Center, a hurricane-proof facility near Labelle.
The last blog you received was: Marathon, Safe Harbor, Florida Straits, where we were making last minute preparations before anchoring in Rodriguez Key, the last stop before heading to the Bahama Islands. The next blog you will receive, will be Rodriguez Key , Straits of Florida.
Our plans this season, include completing the Great Loop near our hometown in Georgian Bay, Canada. En route, we will revisit some of the locations we stopped at last year: Naples and Key West, and then head north to New York City, making stops along the way. The Erie Canal will lead us to Lake Ontario, and the Trent Severn Waterway to Georgian Bay.
Join us as we relive our Bahama experiences, and take the final leg of our American Great Loop Adventure. While researching our stopovers, I have discovered some interesting facts and videos that will interest you.
I hope you had a great summer.
