Dover Island, A Pictorial; (en route to Nashville), Cumberland River

Sept. 30, Day’s run 55 miles

Notice the logs that have been caught on top of this sandbar during high water.
A towboat alongside a small barge works as a car ferry
River water level has been lowered 5 feet to accommodate winter and spring run offs.

This photo taken from our Navionics chart shows Baccalieu II at anchor behind Dover Island. The main river channel is to the left and the dotted line is the ‘shipping lane’ that towboats use. Towboats share the shipping lane with other towboats requiring them to communicate when meeting each other . They agree which one of them is going to pull off and wait for the other to pass. Usually, the vessel running downriver has right away.
Anchored at Dover Island. Fog greets us in the morning but soon burns off.
